Regarding Non-Response to Earlier Request for Historical and Traditional Clarification Concerning Sringeri Math

This Public Notice is issued for publication in newspapers, electronic media, and on our official website for the information of all concerned.
1. Earlier Communication Issued
It is hereby informed that on 31 August 2025, the Adi Shankaracharya Mathamnaya Mahanushasana Manishi Vidwat Parishad® issued a formal written communication addressed to:
H.H. Sri Bharati Teertha Swamiji Maharaj
Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri, Chikkamagaluru District, Karnataka.
The said communication sought historical, traditional, scriptural, and documentary clarification on certain matters relating to the claims, lineage, and institutional traditions associated with Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham.
2. Nature of Clarification Sought
The communication dated 31 August 2025 requested clarification and supporting evidence on, inter alia:
- Chronology and historical dating of Sri Adi Shankaracharya
- Continuity claims of the present Sringeri institution with the Dakshinamnaya Sharada Peetham
- Traditions relating to Sri Chandramauleshwara Linga
- Questions regarding initiation into Dandi Sannyasa Deeksha traditions
- Usage of titles such as “Jagadguru” and “Shankaracharya”
- Adi Shankarachaya age date : 2500 or 1200
- Mathamnaya Mahanushasanam copy from Sringeri
- Where is Dakshinamnaya Sringeri Math in Karnataka ?
The communication also requested documentary evidence including manuscripts, inscriptions, archival records, and other traditional sources.
3. Opportunity Granted for Response
A period of fifteen (15) days was granted for submission of a formal response along with supporting documentary evidence.
4. Non-Response
Despite the lapse of the stipulated period, no written response, clarification, or documentary evidence has been received by this Parishad as of the date of this Public Notice.
5. Record of Disputed Questions
Accordingly, it is hereby recorded that the questions raised in the communication dated 31 August 2025 remain unanswered and require further scholarly and/or judicial examination.
6. Invitation for Evidence
All persons, institutions, scholars, researchers, trustees, and authorities who possess relevant:
- Manuscripts
- Inscriptions
- Historical records
- Traditional documentation
- Legal or scholarly materials
are hereby invited to submit such material for review within fifteen (15) days from the date of publication of this notice.
7. Reservation of Rights
This Public Notice is issued strictly for the purpose of historical inquiry, academic clarification, and preservation of traditional knowledge.
The Parishad reserves all its rights to seek appropriate remedies, declarations, and determinations before competent judicial and statutory authorities, if necessary.
